With activities such as hiking, horseback riding, boating, water sports, and freshwater fishing, Moncks Corner is naturally a beautiful town full of recreation.

Considered a French Protestant Huguenots settlement, many flocked to Moncks Corner escaping persecution in Europe. Many historical surnames show the evidence of French influence. One of the most famous Huguenot families was the Marion family, whose son, Francis Marion, was a famous Revolutionary War hero. Marion was known as the Swamp Fox for his decoy and ambush style tactics used to defeat his enemies. Marion is considered the father of modern guerilla warfare, and is credited in the formation of the United States Army Rangers. Francis Marion is honored for his important role in U.S. history by the beautiful Francis Marion National Forest, which is hundreds of acres of beautiful natural forest.

Moncks Corner, SC also boasts Cypress Gardens. With 163 acres of natural preserves and gardens managed by Berkeley County. Previously a rice plantation, Cypress Gardens contains 80 acres of swamp, boat rides and boardwalks are sources of great family fun at the gardens. You can also enjoy the aquarium, aviary, butterfly house, Reptile Center and Crocodile Isle to view many endangered and exotic species.
